Stroke & Vertebral Artery Dissection Links

Vertebral artery dissection information is difficult to find. I hope this helps.

I add to this site regularly. If you have information for the lists below or know of a doctor or other medical professional who specializes in vertebral artery dissections or even has a great deal of experience with them, please email me.

Read other Personal Stories of VAD's and share your personal story on the site.

Stroke Links - the Chiropractic Stroke Awareness Group works to connect and support people who have experienced VAD's because of a chiropractic adjustment.  They are working on legislation to make positive changes in the area and bring about more awareness.

Victims of Chiropractic Abuse (VOCA) - Their mission is to promote awareness of chiropractic risks through advocacy and legislation.

Chiropractic Adjustment Awareness Organization - If your VAD and/or stroke was caused by a chiropractor, you need to know the Chiropractic Adjustment Awareness Organization.

Interview of Karl Vincent, DC - this is my favorite article dealing with the link between chiropractic manipulation and vertebral artery dissections.

Signs of a Stroke

Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions:

S * Ask the individual to SMILE.
T * Ask the person to TALK and SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE.
(Coherently) i.e. It is sunny out today)
R * Ask them to RAISE BOTH ARMS.

If he or she has trouble with ANY ONE of these tasks, call 911 immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.

Informed Consent Form from Life Chiropractic College (pdf) - although I am glad to see an informed consent form about vertebral artery dissections, I believe their estimated number of vertebral artery dissections caused by chiropractic adjustments is very low at between 1:2 Million and 1:1 Million.

I also believe these consent forms should be required by law in all chiropractic offices.

Help Support our Cause

Please help provide more information about vertebral artery dissections. It takes money and time to keep this site going. In the future will include more information about doctors, therapies, and products and even information to help doctors give better care to VAD patients.

Visit the new VAD Facebook Page
(started 12/19/10) to discuss VAD, share stories, ask questions, and help others.
